Creating a Native Garden
and Resources list

If you're thinking,
"Wow, that's awesome! I want to make a native garden too!"
Here is where you start.

Missouri Wildflowers Nursery has tutorials on how to make one of your own. You can follow their tutorial here! But check out the many other resources below!

Grow Native! is the native plant marketing and education program of the Missouri Prairie Foundation. It's the best resource we've found to find out if a plant is truly native to Missouri. It is filled with lists of top 10 native plants to use for various things. It also has a great list of top invasive plants in our area.

Missouri Wildflowers Nursery has a great native plant catalog, and easy to purchase pre-made plant packs, with options for pickup or delivery. They have an amazing variety of everything native from seeds, to groundcover plants, rain garden plants, prairie wildflower seeds and plants, and shrubs and trees.

Missouri Prairie Foundation works to restore native prairies throughout the state. Do you have a large area you'd like you put in natives? These are your people. They also work on research, education, and grants.

St. Louis Audubon Society and their Bring Conservation Home program gives certification levels for your yard, complete with a sign to put in your garden.

Missourians for Monarchs is a collaborative of organizations and citizens committed to Monarch and pollinator conservationCheck out their website for educational resources, volunteer opportunities, and tons of events, including native plant sales throughout the state.

Monarch Joint Venture might be for you if you're looking to help our migrating Monarch butterflies. Full of information, their website even has a store so you can purchase educational material, signs, and various monarch clothing and accessories.

Pure Air Natives is a St. Louis local business, and a favorite for contractors and Landscape Architects, carrying seed mixes and live plants.

Wild Ones St. Louis Chapter is an inspiring and growing community of native plant gardeners. They have an annual plant sale that is a great way to get started with live plants. I encourage you to join your local chapter.

Missouri Botanical Garden is a great general gardening and plant resource.

Pollinator Partnership is working to protect pollinators and their habitat with projects all over North America and globally. Not in Missouri? Check them out for resources in your area.
